On the weekend of the 19th/20th August a small group of athletes, coaches and volunteers descended upon Wrexham for the Welsh Junior Championships! The sun shone (mostly) and a fantastic weekend was had by all and many memories were made! A big well done goes out to all the athletes who made the 250 mile round-trip up to the top of Wales for the 2 days of competition! Many athletes came away with PB's and some of our athletes made their stamp with Iwan Rees crowned as U15 High Jump and Hurdles champion and Long Jump bronze medallist! Ben Mattey showed his strength in the sprints winning the gold in the u15 300m race and silver in the 200m! Toks Akanbi-Mortimer walked away as U13 Hurdles and Discus champion with a silver medal to add in the U13 Long Jump competition and bronze medals in the U13 High Jump and Shot Put competitions! Some of our athletes also came very close to medals with George Powell and Caitlin Seaborne just outside of the medals in the Long Jump and Shot Put competitions by a couple of centimetres. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the coaches for all their hard work preparing the athletes for this competition, especially those who made the journey up to Wrexham. Well done to all the officials who gave up their time over the course of the weekend also! It really was a fantastic first tour for our RVAC athletes and we definitely painted the North red and let them know who we were!!
Please take time to familiarise yourself with the Events Calendar on our website. All the important dates for the forthcoming Cross Country and Indoor seasons have now been added. Please put them in your diary!
Cross Country is for anybody in the u11 age group and upwards (age groups for Cross Country are based on the age groups athletes competed in over the summer), e-mails will come out in due course for this and the club will register all athletes who have declared themselves as available.
Those athletes who wish to compete during the Indoor Season will need to keep a close eye on both the club and the Welsh Athletics website for information regarding entries. Parents will need to register athletes for these competitions online and further information will be posted out via social media closer to the time. The first event is at the beginning of October, this is the WA & WSAA Combined Events champs and online entries will open very soon. Athletes will have the chance to compete in their new age groups for the indoors and the competitions are open to those in u13 and up (so that's everybody who is in year 6 and up this September!)
