Bio: Matthew Hurcombe
Hello my name is Matthew Hurcombe. I'm currently an assistant coach at the club and have been for the last year - I really do love it.
I am married with 4 boys (the wife is out numbered but still the boss though!). We live in Pontllanfraith, just moved there, crazy 2 days I must add! I used to run for the club when I was younger so I know how good athletics is for all ages and the benefits are amazing for building character and confidence.
Hope to see you soon up the track!

Christopher Cook
Assistant Coach
Bio: Christopher Cook
I am a Level 2 Athletics Coach, primarily specialising in Endurance disciplines and have been coaching with RVAC for approximately 5 years. Despite what my boyish good looks might suggest, I am an experienced runner and endurance sports participant, now looking to impart (shout) wisom from the side lines... solely for the betterment of our younger generations though (definitely not due to age or a decline in ability!).
Most importantly, coaching with RVAC has allowed me to give back and inspire younger athletes. As coaches, the fulfillment and self importance we derive (crave) from being able to pass on our experience from the side of a track, whilst extolling the virtues of hard work to our breathless athletes, is priceless. It's that enjoyment (and the constant promise of training kit) that inspires us to continue.... and at the end of the day, isn't that what sport is about?
Anna Paterson
Multi Events Coach
Team Admin
Bio: Anna Paterson
I am a multi events coach with a specilist interest in high jump and disability sports.
I strive for inclusion and participation in athletics with a strong emphasis on the fundamental skills of run jump throw in all events. This ensures I make sure the athletes have fun and progress regardless of competition results. I use all aspects of sport and fitness in training sessions to maximise the skill set of the athlete and provide them with skills in all areas to avoid early specialisation.
I think it is important to be a role model to athletes of all ages and encourage wellbeing practices as part of training, not just so athletes can identify their own wellbeing needs but that of their peers.
Coaching milestones: Having young athletes who had no confidence in their ability to take part in an event. Participating as a coach in regional high Jump development days.
Aspiration as a coach: To continue to gain knowledge in the sport and become a more competent coach in all aspects of the events. Change practice to encourage athletes to do more than one event at an early age. To encourage girls to take part in sport and empower confidence in body image and self-esteem.
